Biochemistry appears to me to hold the key for managing many chronic illnesses. On some level i think we all have realised this and engage in actively trying to work through this science. Like a blind person without a guiding stick in a new room, unfortunately we are largely taking shots in the dark and working without a few awareness of how or why we pursue some courses.
Firstly, I apologise for the potential holes in my knowledge of biochemistry. It is a new field of knowledge for me in many ways and any supportive documentation is proving elusive to locate and interpret.
Secondly, don’t let this deter you from pursuing your own research in every possible way you can.
Biochemistry
The name itself is self explanatory.
Human – Referring to the race of homo sapiens
Bio – Suggestive of biology, which the the nature of living organisms
Chemistry – Ways in which elements are bonded to form molecular structures, and the behaviours of the products of these bonds
Biochemistry is the study of biological processes at the molecular level: topics like cell and molecular biology, metabolism, enzymology, protein structure and function and molecular genetics. Physiology is the study of the processes of the human body. This will include (some) biochemistry, but also the anatomy and function of body organs on a larger scale. (Sorry this isn’t from a more formal site, but it was the most succinct and accurate description I could find.)
The treatments of naturopathic and nutritional specialists are often based on human biochemistry. It is possible the practioners will be working with predetermined facts and it is possible they themselves may not fully understand some biochemical behaviors. This definitely is not always the situation and I don’t want to unintentionally suggest these professionals don’t know what they are doing. But you should be aware some of their practices are based on biochemistry.
A lot of our invisible and chronic illnesses in this day and age, sadly, are suggested to be self-inflicted. For understanding how the body behaves during many illnesses, we actually have biochemistry to thank. It has lead to understandings about metabolic rates, cellular life and function, and also what we need for each part of the body to stay healthy and strong, and in what exact quantities we need it.
Naturopathically biochemical studies can be used to integrate rarely used chemicals into the body. They use these rare chemicals from research which indicates they contain the same chemicals or similar different chemicals with molecular structures that will break down to work in the same way in the body as what is missing.
Well, at least that is what I can find from my research.
Nutritionally we can employ the research found in biochemistry to better understand what foods are made up of and how the body metabolises them. Knowing this we can understand what active parts of the foods and drinks we ingest do to our body, how they increase or decrease our health and energy, and how we can best keep our bodies at an optimum. Biochemistry has given us the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, it has brought the supplements market into a large scale in the grocery market and is the basis for most dietary plans and weight loss programs.
Well, at least that is what I can find from my research.
Medically the operation of the body during times of health and ill-health can attribute much of their understanding to biochemistry. Again Diabetes. As well, Celiac’s Disease, Allergies, Intolerances and all this kind of thing, plus many more that just don’t come to my head right now. The role of inflammation in the body would be a key example, as well as, and I’m just guessing here, but Neuroplasticity may have found much comfort on biochemical research. All the medicines and drug-treatments we utilise are based on biochemical foundations.
Well, at least that is what I can find from my research.
I hope now you can appreciate how excited I was when I found out that not only is my new naturopath qualified, certified and approved numerous times with the Australian authorities for Naturopathic medicine. Yay!
Disclaimer: I am not a qualified professional in any field remotely related to these, just an avid reader, self-researcher and good listener from my many specialists appointments. This does mean you have to take my information as a thought provoking idea, not medicinal statements to trust over the advice of a professional.
